What are Sub-Parent Pages in WordPress?
WordPress comes with two default post types called Posts and Pages.
Posts are blog content and are displayed from newest to oldest so people who visit your WordPress blog will see the newest posts first.
Posts are usually organized by categories and tags, which is a great way to help visitors find related content.
Pages are one-off or standalone content that is not part of the blog. For example, many websites have About Us and Contact Us pages. Usually, business websites use pages to create a website without having to create a blog. Businesses that wish to add a blog to their content marketing strategy can still do so by simply creating a separate blog page, but this is not required.
You can create a parent page and then add child pages to better organize your navigation menus and website as a whole. website MonsterInsights has a ‘Features’ parent page with separate child pages for each feature. This makes it easier for customers to find the features they want to read.
Many online stores also use sub and parent pages, to help visitors navigate their eCommerce site and find products to buy.
How to Create Sub-Parent Pages in WordPress?
To create a sub-page, you first need a parent page. You can use any page as the parent, or create a new page.
Now that you have a parent page, then you’re ready to add some child pages. Again, you can turn an existing page into a sub-page, or create an entirely new page that will become a sub-page.
Then, simply open the child page for editing.
In the menu on the right, click the ‘Page’ tab. Then, find the ‘Page Attributes’ section and click on it to expand.
If you look at the ‘Parent Page’ field it will appear blank by default. This means that the page is currently the parent page.
To turn this parent into a sub-parent, simply open the ‘Parent’ dropdown. Then you can select the page you want to use as the parent page.
After that, go ahead and save the changes by clicking the Update or Publish button. To create more sub-masters, simply repeat the process described above.
To view all sub-parent pages, go to Pages » All Pages. WordPress will display all sub-parent pages listed below the parent page.
